Course Prescription
Course Overview
Time: one 2-hour lecture/week.
Assessment
This is a 15-point course and will be 100% assessed by way of coursework, i.e. two project reports (35% each), and class participation and final presentation (30%).
Course Organisation
The paper has two project blocks and one final presentation. There will be one principal project area designated in each block. Each block usually contains a mixture of lectures, discussions and presentations. Students are required to attend ALL sessions and actively participate in class activities.
Nature and Organisation of the Course
The nature of the course requires significant amount of self-motivated study and independent literature research, as well as the willingness and ability to present the material in a professional and interesting manner, both orally and in the written reports. It is solely the students’ responsibility to obtain all the information that is required for the successful completion of their projects. Any questions regarding the projects, or the course structure, organisation and requirements should be discussed in public during the sessions. Staff involved in the course will be available for guidance and advice during the designated sessions.
Written Report
The written report of each project has to be prepared individually by each student with a maximum number of words 7,000, including references but excluding appendices. It should follow the same format as a published paper in the International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing. The “Instructions for Authors” can be found from the journal home page: http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/tcim. You are required to source a comprehensive list of references in the preparation of your report, and these references must be up-to-date. All material taken from a literature source must be properly referenced (this means that the use of material which is not properly referenced is regarded as cheating).
Final Interview/presentation
The presentation is an integral part of the paper assessment. It is arranged toward the end of the semester. The presentation may last 20 - 30 minutes.

Workload Expectations
This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.
For this course, you can expect 2 hours of lectures/week, 4 hours of reading and thinking about the content and 4 hours of work on assignments and/or test preparation every week.

Academic Integrity
