Course Prescription

To complete this course students must attain a level of competency in the English language as determined by the School of Medical Sciences. This course must be completed prior to enrolling in Part III of the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) degree.

Course Overview

All students at the University of Auckland are required to undertake DELNA (Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment) Screening. This is a 30 minute assessment of English language abilities. Most students would have satisfactorily completed this in Part I of their programme and no further action will be required of them to meet the requirements of MEDIMAGE 199. All other students will need to complete DELNA screening and/or further diagnosis to determine their individual requirements to pass MEDIMAGE 199.

This course is compulsory for the BMedImag(Hons) programme.

Workload Expectations

For students completing the DELNA screening satisfactorily (achieving the minimum cut scores or above), the requirements of MEDIMAGE 199 have been met.

The School of Medical Sciences requires all undergraduate Medical Imaging students who do not achieve the minimum cut scores in the DELNA assessment/screening to undertake the 2-hour DELNA Diagnosis and subsequently engage in English language enrichment (ELE). Following the DELNA Diagnosis, students may be required to make an appointment with a DELNA Language Advisor who may recommend further study of English.

Campus Experience

For students completing the DELNA assessment/screening satisfactorily (achieving the minimum cut scores or above), the requirements of MEDIMAGE 199 have been met and there are no further classes to attend. Attendance may be required as recommended by the DELNA Language Advisor for individual students. 

Learning Resources

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).

Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.

Communication
All ocial communication to a student will be sent to the student’s current University email address (username@aucklanduni.ac.nz). The student is responsible for ensuring that any desired forwarding to other addresses is in place and operating correctly. Sta will not be responsible for any consequences if students fail to read and respond to University correspondence in a timely manner. Students are encouraged to use the course ‘Discussion’ forum on Canvas as much as possible for communication with sta and other students. Email may be used for more private matters. Email communication with university staff and supervisors must be sent from the student’s university email address.

Academic Integrity
