NURSING 773 : Advanced Assessment and Clinical Reasoning

2022 Semester Two (1225) (30 POINTS)
Clinical Assessment provides the basis for advanced nursing practice. In order to provide safe, effective care nurses must be able to master a range of core and specialty-based clinical assessment skills. Within an expanding scope of practice, nurses are required to assess patients, make provisional diagnoses, request and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe therapeutic interventions based on skilled client assessment and sound evidence-based decision-making processes. The clinical assessment of clients requires a comprehensive approach within a nursing framework, which includes the integration of physical and psycho-social dimensions. The paper is delivered over five study days, with a Observed Structured Clinical Exam on day six.

This course is a standard  point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.
For this course, you can expect  hours of lectures,  hours of reading and thinking about the content and  hours of work on assignments and/or test preparation.

This is a highly practical course with a lot of content packed into the 5 taught days. It is strongly recommended that you plan to attend for all study days as individual tuition for missed content is not possible.
