Course Prescription

Explores the critical issues in child welfare and protection encountered by education, health and human services workers. The historical, social and conceptual basis for an understanding of child abuse and neglect is considered. Explores research-led strategies to address personal, professional, and societal responses to the needs of vulnerable children.

Course Overview

This course opens up discussion of how we can better promote children's well-being. It will be useful for people working in community-based organisations as well as in statutory agencies.

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard [30] point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.

For this course, you can expect [24] hours of lectures, and the remaining time will be spent on reading, reflection and assignment preparation.

To pass this course you must achieve 50% overall and submit all assignments.

Attendance is required at scheduled activities receive credit for components of the course.

The course may include live online events including group discussions/tutorials.
The activities for the course are scheduled as a block delivery.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.
