Drawing upon examples including the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and the Irish Revolution, it explores how we can establish a framework for studying insurgencies, the challenges that arise for historians in comparing acts of rebellion, and how nationalist movements drew upon an empire-wide repertoire of insurgency to advance their objectives.
