Course Overview

Individual research project with 5,000-word essay on a specific aspect of architecture. The main objectives of the course are:
• To develop research skills applied to architecture involving contextual understanding of issues, processes and procedures, identifying relevant research questions for investigation, and identifying relevant literature.
• To demonstrate the ability to collect, analyse and critically evaluate relevant literature and information, and correctly reference source material.
• To appropriately engage in research, analysis and argue from evidence.
• To report and effectively communicate findings in a professional context.

Teaching & Learning Methods

Self-directed learning with supervision. Supervision times will be arranged at times to be agreed upon. The first meeting will be held within the first weeks of the semester to identify, clarify and approve topics. An initial date for meeting as a group will be advised during the first week of the semester using the email address in the canvas system.

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15-point course; students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15-point course they are enrolled in.

For this course, you can expect 10 hours of supervision and support and 140 hours of reading and thinking about the content and working on your proposal and report.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
