Course Prescription
Course Overview
The course aims to help students integrate and strengthen their Business Analytics skills needed for supporting evidence-based management in a company:
- The ability to conduct all stages of a business analytics process (descriptive, predictive, prescriptive), with a particular focus on the connectivity of all stages and credibility of the analysis.
- The ability to work in a team with other Business Analysts: identification of tasks required at each stage, effective allocation of tasks among the team members, scheduling of the tasks, plan execution and timely use of the risk-mitigation actions.
- The ability to communicate the data insights to key stakeholders across the company using different communication media such as reports, interactive dashboards, meeting agendas and minutes, and video presentations.

Learning Outcomes
- Understand all stages in the business analytics process and their business purposes, the process connectivity and verifiability as prerequisites for credibility. (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4.1 and 6)
- Be able to to use a range of analytics tools required for end-to-end analytics, to identify and make use of the supporting resources on the Internet. (Capability 1, 2, 3 and 5.1)
- Demonstrate the qualities required of a valuable team player: respect to others and responsibility, humbleness and patience in explaining others their mistakes. (Capability 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1 and 5.2)
- Communicate complex the results of a complex analysis both within an analytics team and to the outside audience. (Capability 1, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3)

Workload Expectations
- This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.
- For this course, you can expect 36 hours of lectures and (mostly) in-class discussion of the readings and assignment deliverables, 14 hours of reading and thinking about the content, and 100 hours of work on assignments.

- Links to relevant readings on the Internet will be provided on Canvas.
Other Information
- The data set used in the course belongs to the organization provided it. Moreover, despite certain measures had been taken to remove/disguise the information about third parties (for example, customer names) the data still contains sensitive information about the company provided it (for example, the overall performance, trends, etc.). Therefore, to access the data set, students will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
- Only the first week's meeting is a lecture and it will be recorded. It is expected that during all other in-class meetings some discussion of the performance of the focal company may take place. Therefore, due to privacy reasons, video recordings of those meetings cannot be posted on Canvas and will not be made. Lectures by industry speakers will not be recorded as guests’ presentations may contain sensitive information about their employers or clients.
Digital Resources
Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.
Academic Integrity
The University of Auckland will not tolerate cheating, or assisting others to cheat, and views cheating in coursework as a serious academic offence. The work that a student submits for grading must be the student's own work, reflecting their learning. Where work from other sources is used, it must be properly acknowledged and referenced. This requirement also applies to sources on the internet. A student's assessed work may be reviewed against online source material using computerised detection mechanisms.

In this course you may be asked to submit your coursework assessments digitally. The University reserves the right to conduct scheduled tests and examinations for this course online or through the use of computers or other electronic devices. The final decision on the completion mode for a test or examination, and remote invigilation arrangements where applicable, will be advised to students at least 10 days prior to the scheduled date of the assessment, or in the case of an examination when the examination timetable is published.
