BUSDEV 780 : Personal and Team Leadership

Business and Economics

2022 Quarter Two (1224) (15 POINTS)

Course Prescription

Focuses on developing personal and team leadership capabilities within complex, uncertain and creative business contexts. Provides tools and techniques to develop leadership capabilities and self-awareness. Engages students in personal development experiences which enable them to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses and encourages approaches to leadership that are well-suited to current and future work contexts.

Course Overview

Personal and team leadership is important for managing, leading and participating in effective projects. In this course, you will be introduced to concepts such as self and team leadership, adaptive leadership, wayfinding, and contemporary challenges for leadership within agile business contexts. Based on these concepts, you’ll also be introduced to reflective thinking, coaching skills and leadership strategies which provide practical tools and competencies to develop your own leadership approach.

The two core principles underpinning this course are 'leaders as learners' and 'leadership as adaptive'. In line with these principles, the course is designed to give you practical skills to continually learn both individually and as part of a group, and to lead yourself and others through complex modern business environments.

You will be guided through assessments which engage you in concepts and self-reflection and encourage you to apply what you are learning continuously to your own context and professional leadership challenges.

Student Feedback

At the end of every semester students will be invited to give feedback on the course and teaching through a tool called SET or Qualtrics. The lecturers and course co-ordinators will consider all feedback and respond with summaries and actions.

Your feedback helps teachers to improve the course and its delivery for future students.

Academic Integrity

The University of Auckland will not tolerate cheating, or assisting others to cheat, and views cheating in coursework as a serious academic offence. The work that a student submits for grading must be the student's own work, reflecting their learning. Where work from other sources is used, it must be properly acknowledged and referenced. This requirement also applies to sources on the internet. A student's assessed work may be reviewed against online source material using computerised detection mechanisms.

If you have a complaint about this course, please contact your class rep who will know how to raise it in the right channels.
