Course Prescription

Explores creating value through effective and efficient operations and supply chains for the production and delivery of products and services. Emphasises human, information and sustainability aspects.

Course Overview

Supply Chain Management deals with the processes through which supply chains create and distribute goods and services using resources and inputs such as labour, materials, equipment, capital, information, and technology. These processes must be designed and maintained to meet a variety of performance objectives in the presence of variability and conflicting incentives of different supply chain members.
This course supplies students with fundamental knowledge of supply chain management. Further, it enables students to solve common supply chain management problems. However, the ultimate goal of the course is to inspire students to learn more about supply chain management and the evolving challenges it faces.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  2. Analyse and decide about inventory and capacity management under uncertainty. (Capability 1, 2 and 3)
  3. Research, analyse and communicate supply chain design and coordination issues. (Capability 2, 4.2 and 4.3)
  4. Develop and demonstrate analytical excellence in sustainability issues. (Capability 1, 2, 3 and 6)
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of pricing implications for supply chain management. (Capability 1, 2 and 3)

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 15 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in (when taught in 10 week quarters). 

For this course, you can expect 3 hours of class/lab, 6-7 hours of reading, watching, and thinking about the content and 4-5 hours of work on assignments and/or test preparation.

Delivery Mode

Campus Experience

Attendance is required at scheduled activities including labs and workshops to receive credit for the course.
Lectures will be available as recordings. Other learning activities including labs and workshops will not be available as recordings.
The course is not expected to include live online events.  The activities for the course are scheduled as a standard weekly timetable.

Student Feedback

At the end of every semester students will be invited to give feedback on the course and teaching through a tool called SET or Qualtrics. The lecturers and course co-ordinators will consider all feedback and respond with summaries and actions.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
