Course Prescription
Course Overview
The combination of CEM theory/techniques/methods, case studies and site visits provides a useful introduction to the successful running of construction projects. Advanced topics like the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other digital technologies in CEM will be introduced to facilitate the understanding the next generation of construction. Understanding the basics of Maori culture in NZ construction industry. The aim of this course is to help students investigate CEM in New Zealand to develop knowledge about a range of tools available to assist CEM and how these can be effectively utilized in decision making.

Learning Outcomes
- Develop a working knowledge of construction management including scheduling, site management, construction methodology, cost-control and contract administration (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5)
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Construction Life-cycle, the various stake-holders involved and their motivation and objectives. (Capability 1, 2 and 6)
- Utilise a range of tools and skills to assist in construction management. (Capability 2, 3, 4 and 5)
- Develop knowledge and skills to facilitate decision making in construction. (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5)
- Understand and implement Health and Safety procedures on site (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6)
- Understand and apply the use of Building Information Modelling throughout the construction project lifecycle (Capability 1, 3 and 4)
- Conduct a risk assessment for a construction project (Capability 1, 2, 4 and 6)
- Develop an appreciation for the impact of construction on iwi, the wider community, and the environment (Capability 2, 4, 5 and 6)

Students must sit the exam to pass the course. Otherwise, a DNS (did not sit) result will be returned.
Workload Expectations
This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.
For this course, you can expect 24 hours of lectures, 10 hours of tutorial, 70 hours of reading and thinking about the content and 46 hours of work on assignments and/or test preparation.
Delivery Mode
Campus Experience
Attendance is expected at scheduled activities including lectures/tutorials/lab to complete components of the course.
Lectures will be available as recordings. Other learning activities including tutorials/labs will not be available as recordings.
The course will not include live online events.
The activities for the course are scheduled as a standard weekly timetable.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.

Academic Integrity
