Explores how clinicians operate as members and leaders of groups, and the conditions underlying effective group function both in education and the workplace.

Course Overview

This course will cover the theory and practice relevant to small group learning.  The assignments provide an opportunity for students to apply learning to their own clinical teaching settings.

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.

For this course, you can expect six hours of reading and thinking about the content and four hours of work on assignments.

Delivery Mode

Online

Attendance is expected at the scheduled online workshop and interaction is expected with the online material to complete components of this course.
The course will also include 2-3 live online evening workshops (these will be recorded) and online group discussions.
Study material will be available at course commencement.
This course runs to the University semester/quarter timetable and all the associated completion dates and deadlines will apply.

Learning Resources

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).

Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.

Student Feedback

At the end of every semester students will be invited to give feedback on the course and teaching through a tool called SET or Qualtrics. The lecturers and course co-ordinators will consider all feedback and respond with summaries and actions.

Your feedback helps teachers to improve the course and its delivery for future students.

Class Representatives in each class can take feedback to the department and faculty staff-student consultative committees.

Feedback from 2021 indicated the students valued online engagement (i.e. with evening workshops or assignment Q&A sessions), therefore in 2022 we introduced a format of the initial online workshop plus 3 additional evening workshops/Q&A sessions. Students also valued the incorporation of interactive content in the online materials when this was trialed - so this was incorporated into the 2022 materials. 

Academic Integrity

The work that a student submits for grading must be the student's own work, reflecting their learning. Where work from other sources is used, it must be properly acknowledged and referenced.
