EXERSCI 714 : Special Topics in the Exercise Sciences

Course Overview
EXERSCI 714 is targeted at postgraduate research students (PGDipSci, 1st year MSc and BScHons in Exercise Sciences) and consists of an individualized project involving literature study of a special topic of interest, undertaken in any of the major areas of study of Exercise Sciences.
The course will comprise of a literature study having and involving the following:
- A clear scientific rationale and purpose
- A clear research question and appropriate/matching design of the literature review (e.g., narrative review, systematic review, or meta-analysis)
- A clearly defined strategy for the in/exclusion of literature, quality assessment, data extraction, data synthesis and data analysis.
- A clear presentation of findings and insightful interpretation of the data
- A cohesive, written report inclusive of the above elements

Workload Expectations
This course is a [15] point project-based course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.
Supervisory hours will be determined by the nature of the project and the supervisor’s requirements. Recommended contact time with supervisor is 1h per week.

Attendance is expected at scheduled activities (e.g., supervisory hours) as determined together with the supervisor.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
