Course Prescription

A continuation of KOREAN 200 covering more advanced grammar points and their usage. Further develops communicative use of Korean in a wide range of everyday situations.

Course Overview

Welcome to KOREAN 201. As a continuation of KOREAN 200, this course is designed for students who have passed KOREAN 200 or have acquired language competence through a stay or an exchange in Korea. This course is geared toward enabling students to communicate effectively and appropriately in a variety of social contexts by introducing further grammar points and their usage. With each grammar point they learn, students will be given sufficient examples, drill exercises, and authentic communicative tasks to use the language in the context of a particular communicative event. Distinctive aspects of Korean culture will be also covered in order to help students deepen their cultural awareness and sensitivity.

Prerequisite: KOREAN 200 Restriction: KOREAN 250. May not be taken if a more advanced language acquisition course in this subject has previously been passed

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  1. communicate in modern Korean in various situations using appropriate speech levels (Capability 1.2 and 4.1)
  2. comprehend intermediate-level Korean texts (Capability 1.2 and 2.1)
  3. compose intermediate-level texts on various topics using learned grammar structures and expressions accurately. (Capability 1.2, 4.1 and 4.2)

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week on each 15 point course that they are enrolled in, including class time and personal study and assignment preparation.

Students are expected to attend two lectures and two tutorial classes per week.

Campus Experience

Attendance is required at scheduled lectures and tutorials to complete and receive credit for components of the course. Attendance on campus is required for tests. The activities for the course are scheduled as a standard weekly timetable.
