This course continues to focus on the development of language skills that will facilitate the communicative abilities of students.

Learning Outcomes
- Be able to Introduce self and/or others and recite own whakapapa with confidence (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 4.1 and 4.2)
- Be able to Hold a conversation at an intermediate level, within familiar and impromptu situations (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3)
- Be able to Compose an impromptu story based on contrived situations (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.3, 4.1 and 4.2)
- Be able to Compose a piece of written (te reo Māori) work of 1-1.5 pages in length. (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 4.1 and 4.2)

Module
Workload Expectations
The expectation is that students will spend a minimum of 10-15 hours per week on this course outside of class time as well as factoring in time to complete coursework. Students should manage their academic workload and other commitments accordingly. Deadlines for coursework are set by course convenors and will be advertised in course material. You should submit your work on time. In extreme circumstances, such as illness, you may seek an extension but you may be required to provide supporting information before the assignment is due. Late assignments without a pre-approved extension may be penalised by loss of marks – check course information for details.
Delivery Mode
Campus Experience
This course will primarily be delivered in person, on campus. There is a total of 4 hours contact time scheduled per week, split across 2 x 2hr sessions.
Should COVID Alert Level changes require us to work remotely, the course will continue to run online. Assessments have all been designed to ensure a seamless transition to online assessments should the need arise. The course convenor will keep students informed with necessary information should this happen.
Student Feedback
At the end of every semester students will be invited to give feedback on the course and teaching through a tool called SET or Qualtrics. The lecturers and course co-ordinators will consider all feedback and respond with summaries and actions.
Your feedback helps teachers to improve the course and its delivery for future students.
Class Representatives in each class can take feedback to the department and faculty staff-student consultative committees.
Digital Resources
Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.
Academic Integrity

The work that a student submits for grading must be the student's own work, reflecting their learning. Where work from other sources is used, it must be properly acknowledged and referenced.
