Course Prescription

A thorough investigation of the current literature in a specified area leading to a comprehensive review with the intent of a review publication.

Course Overview

This course aims to provide students with the skills to conduct a thorough investigation of the current literature in a specified area. These skills will be developed through specific courses and through interaction with academic staff. An in-depth literature review will then be conducted including identifying and gathering literature followed by careful investigation of the presented data and the underlying themes behind the data. This will allow a comprehensive and insightful review to be prepared with the intent of a review publication.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Conduct research for literature review using relevant search terms in appropriate databases (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, 6.2, 7.1, 8.1 and 8.2)

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.

For this course, you can expect 2 hours of lectures, 10-15 hours to meet with your supervisors, 60-70 hours of to work on your project and writing the report and 10 to 20 hours to prepare slides for oral presentation. 


Delivery Mode

Online

Attendance is expected at scheduled online activities including course introduction and oral
presentation to complete components of the course.
Attendance on campus is not required for the introduction lecture and oral presentation.
Where possible, study material will be available at course commencement and be released
progressively throughout the course.
This course runs to the University first semester, course-outline and timetable and all the
associated completion dates and deadlines will apply.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).
