Course Prescription

Quality healthcare is examined with an emphasis on strategies that enable individuals, teams, and services within healthcare organisations to implement and sustain performance improvement. Allows students to explore the quality principles to an area of their own choice.

Course Overview

The course is able to be undertaken in-person or online. The in-person component involves 4 teaching days spread across the semester. Lectures on the teaching days are recorded and made available to all students shortly after the completion of each lecture.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Apply improvement science methods and tools to support equitable health outcomes, close evidence-practice gaps, and reduce waste, harm and variation in healthcare (Capability 1.1, 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.1 and 6.2)
  2. Critically analyse contributors to care delivery problems and demonstrate a systems and systematic approach to addressing care delivery problems and enhancing patient safety (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1 and 6.2)
  3. Design a robust quality improvement project that recognises major implementation challenges and can support equitable health outcomes, and illustrate how a successful project might be sustained and spread (Capability 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.1 and 6.2)

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.

Digital Resources

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).

Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.

Academic Integrity
