Course Prescription

A supervised capstone project, in which students critically apply advanced knowledge of professional supervision practice and scholarship to explore, develop, and/or refine cultural models/innovations of supervision within their own profession or setting.

Course Overview

As a capstone project to the MProfSupPrac, students can critically apply their advanced knowledge of professional supervision practice through the development of a research topic relevant to their field of work, literature review and/or portfolio of professional practice. A range of assessment approaches will be used, including written assignments, individual and/or group projects, case analyses, and presentations.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the scholarship/application in practice of professional supervision, including Māori and other Indigenous approaches; (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8)
  2. Demonstrate the ability to examine and critique existing research and current literature as it informs professional supervision (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8)
  3. Apply advanced knowledge of the discipline to their own practice or organisational settings (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8)
  4. Develop a reflective independent study/ portfolio that critically analyses existing knowledge and practice, and proposes best-practice solutions for professional supervision in their own professional context (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8)

To pass this course students must submit all assessments and achieve at least 50% for the overall course.

Workload Expectations

Following University workload guidelines this course is a standard 30 point course and represents approximately 300 hours of study for the semester. For this course, you can expect 6 - 10 hours of contact time with your lecturer and the rest of the time  for independent study (reading and thinking about the content).


Delivery Mode

Online

Attendance is expected at scheduled online activities including supervision/group discussions to complete components of the course.
The course will include live online events including group discussions and these will be recorded.
Where possible, study material will be available at course commencement/be released progressively throughout the course.
This course runs to the University semester/quarter timetable and all the associated completion dates and deadlines will apply.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).

Student Feedback

At the end of every semester students will be invited to give feedback on the course and teaching through a tool called SET or Qualtrics. The lecturers and course co-ordinators will consider all feedback and respond with summaries and actions.

Class Representatives in each class can take feedback to the department and faculty staff-student consultative committees.

Initial student feedback for this course is the flexibility of the project that the student can undertake. Students have the option of completing a small written piece, literature review or evidencing application of skills in  supervisory practice.
