Course Prescription

A study of the methods and tactics used to produce behaviour change in a range of real-world and clinical settings. Students will learn the relationship between interventions and assessments and the behavioural principles that underpin them.

Course Overview

This course should be taken in conjunction with PSYCHOL 702. In this course, we focus on the concepts and principles that underpin the assessments and interventions conducted by behaviour analysts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe the application of empirically-derived tactics in behaviour analysis to a range of clinical and non-clinical issues. (Capability 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8)
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of a behavioural account of language development, including interventions derived from this account. (Capability 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8)
  3. Demonstrate clinical reasoning in the selection and implementation of interventions. (Capability 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8)
  4. Describe the characteristics of effective collaborative clinical practice. (Capability 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8)

Workload Expectations

This course is a 30-point course and students are expected to spend 20 hours per week.

For this course, you can expect 48 contact hours, 72 hours of preparatory reading, 100 hours conducting projects (including in community), and 80 hours of assessed self-study.
