Course Prescription

Introduces ideas on the impact of social processes in the human environment. Humans have long had a major impact on their environments. This course will examine these impacts using social and cultural lenses to understand a variety of geographic case studies. This course draws on the subject of Human Geography.

Course Overview

We will explore a variety of topics that will showcase a range of approaches explored in Geography.

This course applies a range of assessment types to encourage students to see the world in new ways from different perspectives and to prepare students for the expectations of study in the School of Environment at the stage 1 undergraduate level. Course material is primarily delivered through two one-hour lectures per week, supplemented by 2-hour tutorials which are assessed through a variety of individual and team activities.

Workload Expectations

This course is a standard 15 point course and students are expected to spend 10 hours per week involved in each 15 point course that they are enrolled in.

For this course, you can expect 2 hours of lectures, a 2 hour tutorial, 1 hour of reading/thinking about the lecture content and 5 hours of work on assignments and/or test preparation per week.

Campus Experience

Attendance is expected at scheduled classes including lectures and tutorials to complete components of the course. 

Lectures will be available as recordings. 

Tutorials will not be available as recordings.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).

Please remember that the recording of any class on a personal device requires the permission of the instructor.
