Where a student has been unable to attend to their studies for a period of time in the semester they may apply for an Extension of Time. Late submissions will be considered on medical and special grounds when supported by a health or other professional, and when the application is made according to the procedure below. Coursework not received by the due date, and for which no extension of time has been approved, will receive the grade ‘DNC’ (Did Not Complete).
Requests for extensions of time must be submitted and approved before the due date unless there are exceptional circumstances. Students applying for an extension of time must obtain an Extension of Time Form for Coursework Submission from the School of Architecture and Planning Office (6th Floor of the Architecture Building, Building 421, 26 Symonds Street) and complete the required details. Late submission forms must be accompanied with the appropriate sign by faculty staff.

This studio course comprises of interactive learning forums, immersive learning experiences, lectures, and self-directed study. It is designed to introduce to students the importance of planning for diversity and cultural differences. The study will examine both theoretical and practical tools and techniques for planning for diversity and difference. Students are expected to develop their professional skills and knowledge of working with a community that has its own history, culture, values, and aspirations that need to be recognized and may need to be treated and planned for differently.
Planning with a community requires a bottom-up approach that is people-centered and often materially resources deficient. Community-based planning is geared towards community empowerment and is a core aim of postmodern planning practice. A skilled planner understands the value of diversity and difference and is able to communicate, observe, listen, share, interact, and engage communities to design sustainable solutions.
This class will examine and apply planning methods, techniques, and tools for engaging with community-based organisations.

Workload Expectations

Following University workload guidelines, a standard 15 point course represents approximately 150 hours of study.

For this course, you can expect 24 hours of lectures, a 24-hour tutorial, 24 hours of reading, and thinking about the content and 78 hours of work on assignments.

Course materials are made available in a learning and collaboration tool called Canvas which also includes reading lists and lecture recordings (where available).

Academic Integrity
